How to take care of a new tattoo?

If you have a fresh tatto, the result will not only depend on the tattoo itself, but just as well on the way you take care of it! On this page you can find our advice:

First day

We send you home with your tattoo wrapped in cling film.

Once you get home, you can gently wash your tattoo with clean water (no soap, or antibacterial soap). Don’t rub your tattoo, but pat it dry with a clean or paper towel. Apply a new layer of balm (we recomment Sorry Mom tattoo balm, available in the shop) and cover it with fresh cling film.
Repeat this right before you to go to bed (it will protect your sheet from ink residue! ;))

First week

The first few days, depending on the size of your tattoo, you can repeat cleaning your tattoo like mentioned above and keep the cling foil on. If you feel comfortable with leaving it open, you can let your tattoo ‘breathe’. However don’t use cling foil longer than 3-4 days.

Most importantly: keep your tattoo moist to insure a good healing process. Never let it dry out!

After a few days/a week your tattoo will start to scab and might be itchy. Never scratch your tattoo, this could result in infections and badly healed tattoos. Keep moisturizing!

4 to 6 weeks after getting tattooed

Keep your skin hydrated with tattoo balm or lotion, if your tattoo is exposed to sunlight: use a strong sunscreen to help your tattoo heal and to avoid your tattoo fading faster than usual.

Things to avoid:
– don’t soak your tattoo: no baths, no sauna’s and no swimming (short shower is ok)
– avoid chemicals (for instance cleaning products)
– don’t expose your tattoo to sunlight or tanning lights
– keep your tattoo clean after sporting/sweating
